This set of plates is in brass sheet instead of the stainless plate used in the previous set. The overall design is the same but the front plate with the team logo was cleared up to make it stand out more. These also require far less labor to create. Prepolished brass sheet is readily available whereas stainless plate is not.

Some interesting issues were discovered with the stainless plates. Those plates used a laser to create oxide layers on the polished steel. The oxide provided color but did not change the texture of the metal, which was (deliberately) highly reflective. This effect looks great in person. At the event the plates were placed on a table which had a streaming camera located above the center of the table pointing straight down. When in this orientation the plates will reflect whatever is inline with the camera, which was the venue lighting. Because of this everyone at the event could see the markings on the plates but no one on the stream could see anything. The on site commentators had to have someone at the table forward them info about what was being displayed.

For brass I don’t have any oxides able to provide color. All I have are various shades of burnt along with some etching texture. The team USA logo required a bit of rework since the original has different colors touching each other. The different colors allow the viewer to see where one element ends and another starts. If everything is black that distinction is lost. I think the changes worked out well.
